3 min read Kathleen Tucka's Wit & Wisdom Tidbits To Live Your Best Life NOW! ![]() Commitment is a powerful word, holding the key to achieving our goals, both personally and professionally. From what I have observed, those who demonstrate unwavering commitment find more fulfillment and success. But what does it really mean to commit on all levels? Research says commitment is more than just a decision; it’s consistent action toward a goal, despite obstacles. Whether it’s waking up early to exercise, dedicating time to personal growth, or pushing through business challenges, commitment requires discipline, focus, and a deep connection to the ‘why’ behind the action. Take Brenda, a client of mine who found herself at a crossroads in her personal and professional life. Brenda had launched a new business, pouring her heart into making it a success. She was also striving to prioritize her health. However, there was another important aspect of her life that was being neglected—a relationship with a truly great man. Brenda was involved with a wonderful gentleman who loved her deeply. He was supportive and cared for her happiness. Yet, Brenda struggled to give him the attention he deserved. Her business and personal goals consumed her time, leaving little room for their relationship. From what I have observed, this is a common challenge. The conflict between professional ambition, personal growth, and relationships can create a sense of fragmentation. Brenda felt torn between the man who adored her and the dreams she was chasing. The guilt of not fully committing to him weighed on her, and she feared losing someone special. Part of Brenda's struggle came from her upbringing. Growing up, she did not have positive role models for relationships or marriage. She saw partnerships filled with tension and disconnect, developing a fear of commitment. Brenda hesitated to invest in her relationship, worried it might mirror the ones she had seen in her past. Brenda also knew that anyone with self-respect wouldn’t row the boat alone for long. They needed a fully present partner. ![]() Recognizing these fears, Brenda decided to redefine her understanding of commitment, integrating all aspects of her life, rather than treating them as competing priorities. By creating space for her partner and sharing her business challenges, Brenda found support. Committing to her relationship actually energized her in other areas. Brenda’s journey is a testament to this. Brenda clarified her why, took consistent daily action, and integrated her personal and professional commitments to prevent burnout and enrich both. ![]() Commitment isn’t a one-time decision: it’s a series of choices. As I have observed, the true test of commitment is staying the course, adjusting when needed and moving toward our goals. Brenda’s story reminds us that committing on all levels is possible and powerful. It's about aligning with our deepest values and staying fully present.
