"I'm SO busy!" we brag. "I pulled an all-nighter!" "Lunch? I ate at my desk again!" We wear burnout like a medal of honor and shame anyone who dares to rest. We doom-scroll at 2 AM because our brains are too fried to shut down, then wonder why we feel like the walking dead. 🧟

When you're constantly in fight-or-flight, cortisol stays elevated, suppressing your immune system, disrupting sleep, and depleting energy. 📡

Let me tell you about Brittany. She walked in looking professionally put-together—hair done, makeup perfect, designer bag. 👜 But when she sat down, her shoulders collapsed. "I think I'm broken," she said quietly. 😔

Brittany was a portfolio manager at a major financial company crushing it on paper: six-figure salary, just promoted. ✅

But inside? Drowning.
"I cry in my car before work," she admitted. 😢 "I can't remember the last time I felt anything. Happy, sad, excited, it's all just gray. And I'm so tired. Bone-tired. All the time."

She'd worked 60-hour weeks for two years. Responded to emails at midnight. 📱 Skipped lunches. Cancelled plans because she was "too tired" but then scrolled Instagram for hours because her brain wouldn't shut off. 📲

"Last week, I forgot my best friend's birthday," Brittany said, voice cracking. "I've never forgotten. And when she texted me, I felt... nothing. Not even guilty. Just numb." 😶

Her body was rebelling migraines three times a week, constant stomach issues, weight gain from stress eating, sick four times in three months. 🤧

We laughed about her Googling "is it bad to hope for a minor car accident for time off?" and her elaborate amnesia daydreams. 😅

Ever catch yourself saying something you immediately regret? 😬 Or firing off that text in anger, only to cringe later? 📱💥

From what I've observed, we live in a world that rewards instant reactions. Social media, notifications, and our always-on culture have trained us to respond immediately to everything. 📲⚡

But here's the thing: the space between trigger and response is where your power lives. ✨💪

When we react without thinking, we're essentially letting our emotions drive the bus.
​And trust me, emotions make terrible drivers—they speed through stop signs and take the scenic route to disaster! 😅🚌💨

Let me tell you about Joseph—an air traffic controller at one of the busiest airports in the country. Yes, you read that right. This is a man whose job literally involves preventing mid-air disasters and keeping hundreds of passengers safe every single day. Cool under pressure? That was supposed to be his middle name! 🛫
But here's the plot twist: while Joseph could calmly guide planes through thunderstorms and navigate complex flight patterns without breaking a sweat, put him in a staff meeting and he'd turn into what his wife lovingly called "Hurricane Joseph."

​The breaking point came during a routine safety briefing. His supervisor questioned a decision Joseph had made the previous week—not in a confrontational way, just standard protocol review. But Joseph heard criticism and fired back with what he later described as "a dissertation on everything that was wrong with management, delivered at maximum volume, with footnotes."


The room went silent. We're talking pin-drop, awkward-cough, check-your-phone-for-escape-routes silent. 😬📱👀

That's when Joseph realized the irony: he could pause and think clearly when guiding a 200-ton aircraft through fog, but couldn't pause when his ego felt bruised in a conference room. 🤔💡

As the year winds down, many of us start looking back, asking ourselves,

“Did I really make progress this year?” 
It’s easy to focus on what didn’t go as planned or to feel like you’ve fallen short.

From what I’ve observed, we’re often too quick to dismiss our wins, big or small, without giving ourselves the credit we deserve.

​But when you pause to really reflect, you might be surprised at how much you’ve accomplished.
​Take Ian, for example. When Ian and I started working together, he felt stuck.

He had set some ambitious goals for 2024, but as December rolled around, he found himself saying, “What was the point? I didn’t hit half of them.”

​He was so focused on what he hadn’t achieved that he couldn’t see the bigger picture.

At first, he shrugged and said, “Nothing special.”

​But as we talked, a different story emerged. Ian had completed a certification course he’d been putting off for years, expanded his professional network, and—here’s the kicker—finally started taking weekends off.

​Josh was the go-to guy in his office—a high-achieving project manager known for meeting impossible deadlines.

But behind the scenes, he was running on empty. "I don’t have time to rest," he told me during our first session. "There’s always something that needs to get done."

There are all kinds of strategies and practical tips for improving your life and feeling better about yourself, but they do not produce RESULTS if the foundation isn't there.
 
That foundation is the real you, the you that you know deep down you are.
 
The trick is that it takes confidence to find that and to bring out who you are.

1. Get To Know Your Values

Personal values are a big passion of mine because they are at the core of who I am.


​They are one of the most important things you can know about yourself and are vital to cultivating genuine inner confidence.

Your values form the foundation and cornerstone of who you are. They represent your deepest priorities and the principles you hold dear.

Research shows that aligning your life with your core values is a key factor in achieving greater well-being and satisfaction, as it leads to a more authentic, fulfilling life.

A value is something intrinsic to you, a guiding principle that matters most. This could include beliefs, family, fun, nature, achievement, or freedom—whatever you cherish most in your life.

So why is it that certain people or situations can leave you feeling angry, frustrated, or even deflated?

Often, it's because these interactions are clashing with your core values. When something or someone opposes what’s fundamental to you, it naturally creates an emotional response.

​Recognizing and honoring your values empowers you to make choices that reinforce your true self, bringing greater harmony and resilience in challenging situations.

It’s often because one or more of your values is being denied, suppressed, or repressed—something research shows can lead to negative emotions and even stress.

​When this happens, we experience it as a negative experience because it denies a fundamental piece of who we are.

You know those times when you’ve felt really alive, amazing or buzzing?
 
Those are the times when one or more of your values are being honored, and you can get more of that by continuing to put yourself in situations that honor your values.

Your values are all yours, and no matter what happens, no one can ever take them away.

 
You can have absolute confidence in them because they’re there all the time just waiting for you to notice and use them.



When you get to know your values, you can start to make choices and align your life around them.
It’s so simple and it feels amazing because all that really means is that you’re allowing who you are to live in the real world.

​2. Exercise the Muscle

Confidence is a muscle, and like any muscle you need to exercise it so that it doesn’t shrink and waste away.

The problem is that unlike your biceps or glutes, which tend to stay in the same place, your confidence muscle can be harder to find.
 
How do you develop your biceps or firm up your glutes?
 
By doing exercises that are designed to work that muscle over a period of time until you see the results you were looking for.

It’s just the same with confidence.

Let’s say that you’re the kind of person that doesn’t take many risks, the kind of person who goes through each day doing what needs to be done and doing it well, but not really stretching yourself.

You might talk yourself out of doing something because it’s too scary or because you think to yourself -
​"I’m not good enough"
 "That’s not who I am"
or
"I don’t really want it anyway."

That kind of person lives within what they know and what keeps them safe and comfortable.
 
The fewer risks they take, the less confident they need to be and so the less confident they become.

To work your confidence muscle you need to be prepared to take risks – big or small.
 
You need to be willing to stretch yourself in an unfamiliar direction, to try something new or try something in a slightly different way.​​

In my experience, opening yourself up to the possibilities around you—and pushing yourself to expand what you know, what you do, and who you are—can be transformative.

The more open you are to risk, opportunity, and new possibilities, the more confidence you’ll need. And with each step, the more confidence you’ll develop.

That’s your confidence muscle at work.

 It usually takes six months to a year to get a business going and you don’t want your ability to make your house payment to hinge upon your company being an overnight success.

The days of general stores are over. Particularly online, consumers are looking for stores that specialize.

In my experience, one of the keys to entrepreneurial success is finding a need—a product or service that a specific group of people wants but can’t find at the big chain stores—and filling it.

Research shows that small businesses thrive by identifying niche markets that larger competitors overlook.

​Instead of competing directly with the big players, focus on those unique spaces where they aren’t present and carve out your own niche.

Even if you’re not planning to start an online retail business, consider that the internet can still play a valuable role in your company.

Having an online presence eliminates the limitations of physical location and broadens your customer base by, literally, millions. It’s also a great tool for promoting yourself and letting people, even in your own area, know that you’re there, and what you’re doing.

Successful entrepreneurship requires creativity, energy, and a drive to keep going when you fail. 

In my experience, few people realize that before Bill Gates launched the wildly successful Microsoft 3.0, he first developed Microsoft 1.0 and 2.0—both of which flopped.

Yet he persisted, demonstrating the determination and resilience that research shows distinguishes successful entrepreneurs from unsuccessful ones. Arm yourself with optimism to push past rejection and challenges.

There’s nothing wrong with failure; in fact, it’s a valuable teacher. Just remember: learn from each setback, and don’t repeat the same mistakes!​

9 Ways To Combat Fear

In my experience, fear gets to the best of us, whether it’s fear of failure, fear of success, or even fear of fear itself. Research shows that fear can be a powerful barrier, affecting our confidence and limiting our potential.

We’ve all encountered fear at some point in our lives, and it can become a real stumbling block, holding us back from reaching true success. Recognizing and working through our fears, however, can pave the way to personal growth and fulfillment.

Research shows that fear doesn’t have to hold you back forever—unless you allow it to. There are many effective ways to overcome fear. Here are my top nine:​​

1. SEPARATE REALITY FROM PERCEPTION
Ask yourself what is really going on, locate the facts and place them over your feelings.
 
2. IDENTIFY THE TRIGGER
Figure out what it is in a situation that triggers you.
 
Learning to identify it will help you learn to combat it.

​3. KNOW WHERE FEAR LIVES IN YOUR BODY
A lot of times, fear takes over physically. It affects different people different ways. Identify if/how it affects your physical body and do the work to take care of your body.

Ex: if you hold stress in your back, you can learn stretches, foam rolling, etc. to avoid the pain.
 
4. PRACTICE GRATITUDE
Everyday, list out 1-3 things you are thankful for. It doesn’t matter how big or small it is, gratitude helps shift the mind into a positive light, which overtime, overcomes fear.

5. LISTEN TO YOUR INNER VOICE
Monitor your inner conversations. 
​

If you wouldn’t say it to a friend, don’t say it to yourself.

Speak positively to yourself and remind yourself of your strengths.
 
6. CREATE A NEW ASSOCIATION
Remind yourself that the feeling and the moment will pass. Focus on the positive outcome of the situation, rather than the scary in between.

7. LOOK AT THE GLASS HALF FULL
Perception is a very powerful thing, and how you feel about your situation dictates how you respond.

​So think positively and you’ll give yourself a much better chance of success.​

This won’t happen overnight; practice with just one thought. What is one recurring negative/fearful thought you have? Work on reversing this one thought. Overtime, this will become a habit.

8. PRACTICE BREATHING EXERCISES
Breathing helps center your body; when you stop breathing, your heart stops beating.

​You can do a grounding exercise, or even just take 5 deep, long breaths at any point to calm and center yourself. It is best to start your day with this, but feel free to practice all day long.

9. CREATE A SAFE SPACE
When you feel safe and secure, there is no room for fear.
 
Find somewhere safe you can retreat to when ill feelings begin- whether this is a real place such as your bedroom, or a place in your mind such as the beach. This sense of comfort will soothe you and allow you to face your fear.

Please keep in mind, these are just 9 strategies, not everything works for everyone, but this is a place to start.

There is a polarity in everything in life…. happy and sad, rich and poor, fat and thin. It is the contrast and the differences between things that can really help us clarify what we want in life.  When it comes to creating your life there is the having and the “not” having.

 In order to create what you want in your life you need to focus on what you want, in other words “the having”. If you want money, you need to focus on money. If you want a relationship, focus on having the relationship of your dreams. If you want a fit and thin body, focus on being fit and thin.​

​ The problem comes because we all have a tendency to focus on the “not having” that we are going through at the point of time. I assume that if you are trying to create something it is something that you don’t have as yet. And what I am saying is that that is the problem. If you are focusing on the “fact” that you don’t have it as yet then that is your point of attraction and that is what you are creating more of.

​If your mailbox is full of delinquent bills everyday it is difficult to focus on the money that you want. If you are overweight and the scales won’t budge it is difficult to focus on being fit, thin and at an ideal weight. If you eat dinner alone every night it can be difficult to focus on that relationship and it makes it more elusive than ever.

But in order to consciously “create” the life of your dreams and have the money, the relationship, the health, the fit body, whatever it is that you want, you must focus your attention upon it.

​That is where visualizations and even daydreaming comes in. What will it take to give you the feelings of having it now? That is how you will consciously create the life of your dreams. You get what you are “feeling” about.

 If you are feeling bad about the debt that arrives daily in your mailbox that is what you are creating…more debt and more feeling bad!

It can be difficult to control your thoughts. I think we can all agree on that. So rather than trying to control your thoughts all the time try a strategy I am going to call “chunking”.

​Consciously set aside a chunk of 15 minutes at a time to consciously visualize what it is that you want. You can even do it when you are doing something else, driving, exercising, or vacuuming the house.

During that time daydream and see the final result in your head. Imagine what you would feel, see, hear, touch if you had your heart’s desire.

Use as many senses as you can. If your mind wanders back to unpleasant thoughts during the 15 minutes develop the discipline to go back to your daydream. Enjoy your “daydream chunk”, do it as many times as you can, once a day, twice a day or more.



 If you develop this discipline you will be well on your way to consciously creating your heart’s desire.

For example, set a goal for the end of the month and then set short term goals for each day through the end of the month. This way you are setting short and long term goals and each day as you accomplish your short term goals you move one step closer to accomplishing your long term goal. 
Don’t forget to include personal development goals and days off.
​2. Keep a calendar 
Take the goal you set for the end of the month and write that goal on the last day of the month.
​Then write down the short term goals for each day through the end of the month.

The first belief we’ll tackle is one nearly everyone faces at some point: a lack of confidence in our ability to accomplish a goal.

In most cases, this belief simply isn’t true.

But he refused to accept this. He took lessons and practiced diligently for about 10 years. Over time, it clicked—he learned to sing on key and could even self-correct when he veered off.

2. All the Good Ideas are Gone
 
This is simply a cop-out. The good ideas aren’t all gone. In fact, every decade or so, as technology advances by leaps and bounds, a whole new wave of opportunities and ideas emerges.

A lot of times, fear takes over physically. It affects different people different ways. Identify if/how it affects your physical body and do the work to take care of your body.

​For example, if you hold stress ​in your back, you can learn stretches, foam rolling, etc. to avoid the pain.
​​4. PRACTICE GRATITUDE​​
Everyday, list out 1-3 things you are thankful for. It doesn’t matter how big or small it is, gratitude helps shift the mind into a positive light, which overtime, overcomes fear.

Remind yourself that the feeling and the moment will pass. Focus on the positive outcome of the situation, rather than the scary in between.

​7. LOOK AT THE GLASS HALF FULL
Perception is a very powerful thing, and how you feel about your situation dictates how you respond.

​So think positively and you’ll give yourself a much better chance of success. This won’t happen overnight; practice with just one thought. What is one recurring negative/fearful thought you have? Work on reversing this one thought. Overtime, this will become a habit.
8. PRACTICE BREATHING EXERCISES
Breathing helps center your body; when you stop breathing, your heart stops beating. You can do a grounding exercise, or even just take 5 deep, long breaths at any point to calm and center yourself. ​

​It is best to start your day with this, but feel free to practice all day long.

9. CREATE A SAFE SPACE
When you feel safe and secure, there is no room for fear. Find somewhere safe you can retreat to when ill feelings begin- whether this is a real place such as your bedroom, or a place in your mind such as the beach. This sense of comfort will soothe you and allow you to face your fear.
Please keep in mind, these are just 9 strategies, not everything works for everyone. But this is a place to start. Start implementing these techniques into your life and don’t let fear hold you back from reaching your goals and your highest potential this year!​

​What will it take to give you the feelings of having it now?
That is how you will consciously create the life of your dreams. You get what you are “feeling” about. If you are feeling bad about the debt that arrives daily in your mailbox that is what you are creating…more debt and more feeling bad!

So rather than trying to control your thoughts all the time, try a strategy I am going to call “chunking”.​

During that time, daydream and see the final result in your head. Imagine what you would feel, see, hear, and touch if you had your heart’s desire. Use as many senses as you can.

Are you one of those people who can’t seem to stop “doing?”

​I have yet to meet anyone who hasn’t felt overwhelmed from time to time, especially during the holidays.

Focusing on projects often begins with good intentions but we can quickly and easily be overwhelmed if we do not have a plan to minimize and balance our work.

Getting the project finalized for your team, writing the copy for your website, designing the new sales brochure or completing the 90-day marketing plan are extremely important...

1) Stop what you are doing for a few minutes and take a break. Go for a short walk, sit outside under a tree, meditate, breathe deeply, go to a movie, ​call a friend to have coffee and share what is going on.

3) Eliminate, eliminate, eliminate. Unsubscribe to unnecessary e-mail, organize your desk and office to decrease clutter, stop attending meetings, get off committees and decrease volunteering at fundraisers unless you have a total passion for the organization ​and the cause.

5) Decide what is most important in your life. If you want a balanced life, you will have to make changes in your life to allow this to happen. ​That takes some time and planning but it will be well worth the improvement in your life!

Photographs are clearer when they are in focus. When they are out of focus, they are blurry, indistinct.

How many times have you been disappointed by the result when your focus was off?
 
Faces or objects are blurred, maybe even unrecognizable. Toss that one away - a poor quality picture that does not meet the ideal you had in mind when you took it.

Scratch it up to experience. Maybe blame it on the camera.

​In the second place, as you go about the ‘doing’ necessary to effectuate the picture, you must remain focused on your goal and not allow yourself to get distracted by what is going on around you.

But here's the kicker: happiness isn't a static state. It's as fluid and changeable as the weather.  That's what makes it beautiful.

we're setting ourselves up for disappointment.

We start believing in fairy tales,
expecting a happily-ever-after that's just not realistic. 

​But life is messy. It's full of ups, downs, and everything in between.  That's okay. It's part of the deal.
Think about it: would we really appreciate the sunshine if
​we never had to endure the rain? Would joy mean anything without its sidekick, sorrow?
Happiness gets its depth from its contrast with other emotions. It's about embracing the whole crazy rollercoaster of being human, not just the parts that make us smile.
So here's a thought: what if we stopped chasing happiness like it's a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow?

What if we focused on building a life filled with meaning, purpose, and connection instead?

​When I recently met with a new client, their story struck a chord with me.

They sighed heavily and confessed, "I used to be so driven, but now I feel exhausted and lost. I just can't seem to make progress towards my goals."

​ They might also distance themselves from the problem, pretending it doesn’t matter. But this is simply denial—and it never works.

According to the world's foremost expert on optimism, Dr. Martin Seligman, everyone is born optimistic. And yet, 95% of grownups are pessimists, not optimists.

​Some people see the glass as half empty, while others see it as half full. But is it really that simple?

Is it possible to be a bit of both?
In my experience, most people find themselves feeling optimistic at times and pessimistic at others.

Interestingly, research shows that situations often turn out according to how we feel about them. When someone approaches a situation with optimism and genuinely believes things will go well, they often do.

​The same is true of the reverse. When someone feels like something will go badly, it tends to do just that.


A clear sign of a pessimist in a stressful situation is a simple phrase: “I can’t.” This response reflects a sense of helplessness and powerlessness.

In contrast, the optimist says, “I won’t.” This response indicates a conscious choice rather than a reaction, showing empowerment and control.

Think about the following statements:

These are all probably true just by the fact that optimists’ positive thinking makes challenging situations “not that bad” after all.

Now true optimism is not sitting back, thinking positive thoughts, and hoping everything will turn out all right.
 
It’s how you see the world, positively rather than negatively. You face each situation, each problem, and each occasion with a positive attitude; and you always look forward to the “benefits” you will derive from it. You have a choice.
